Camp El Tesoro-First Looks

I visited Camp El Tesoro in Granbury, Texas – what a wonderful place! This camp is part of Camp Fire USA, and has been operating for 75 years!

Click here to see a map of the campgrounds at El Tesoro.

When you arrive at the camp, one of the first things you see is this great suspension bridge!

My visit was only for a few hours, but in that time, I saw a wealth of natural flora and fauna. The camp was in-between sessions, but it was easy to imagine happy campers (did I just say that?) running around, having a blast!

This is a view from the suspension bridge. The children must cross the bridge to get to the cabins. How cool! I have never walked on a suspension bridge before, and I heartily recommend it! It swings and bounces, even if you walk slowly. I have to confess that I would love to go back and RUN across it!

This picture shows the path that leads to the creek, named Fall Creek. Fall Creek empties into the Brazos River, and it’s depth varies with rainfall. One of the really neat things about this creek is the way that you can see so clearly how water seeps down through the limestone rock. It actually forms conical mineral deposits called stalactites. The dripping water is a magnet for thirsty birds and other wildlife – you can see a picture of this from an earlier post.

I cannot think of a more fun way for children to spend part of their summer. Even better, El Tesoro offers events and camping opportunities throughout the year! Look for future articles exploring Camp El Tesoro :-)

What a great set of pictures for El Tesoro! Looking forward to seeing the whole series-they will be equally as inviting and refreshing.

Thank you for this very special look at ET.
