The Grumpy Egret and the Turtles

We had a lot of rain last week, and I thought I would take a quick trip to a nearby lake, just to see what the birds were doing. This is what I found at White Rock Lake, in Dallas, Texas:

This Great Egret (Ardea Alba) was hanging out with the local Red-Eared Sliders…

Then the egret got cranky and ran them all off! :-)

Not long after that, I saw this guy…

pointing the way to a new log where the red-ears could sun themselves.

When the red-ears made it to the new log, they tried to “blend in” by posing as branches. This soft-shelled turtle wasn’t fooled, though.

He went over to the other soft-shells to discuss the arrival of the red-ears.

They decided that they could all share the log. :-) I caught the moment right after their fist-bump. Ha!
