[Updated with winning charity, 8-17-2010]
Our winner this month is Patricia Huss. I will go ahead and post the answers so that we can get started on this month’s Challenge. (Patricia, let me know which charity you choose!)
And now, without further delay – the answers:
Picture 1 Question: Name this bird!
Picture 1 Answer: Little Blue Heron (Egretta caerulea)
Picture 2 Question: Name this bug!
Picture 3 Answer: This is one of the True Bugs, Genus Leptoglossus (pretty sure), species? Maybe fulvicornis, but I’m way out of my league here. The common name, “leaf-footed bug,” works as an answer!
Picture 3 Question: What in the world has happened to this Shumard Red Oak (Quercus shumardii) limb?
Question 3 Answer: Bores! Bores are the larvae of several kinds of insects, including beetles and sawflies.
Bonus Question: What is the name for a grasshopper in this stage of development?
Bonus Question Answer: nymph.
Stay tuned for the August Challenge for Charity, will be posted soon!
