My habit of looking up while walking in the forest scored me this great find. Now THIS is not your everyday beehive! This is at Palmetto SP in southern Texas.
I guess I was so awed by the hive that I didn’t even think to photograph the hive with a different lens, so that I could capture the entire thing in a single frame. The hive spread about 3ft horizontally.














How awesome is that!!! A wonder to be sure. Must have been quite a surprise to see it first hand. Thanks for sharing it.

Hi Theresa – Glad to hear you’re impressed with that hive too. I sent the picture to an entomologist guy from whom I occasionally get emails as part of a distribution list. Anyway, he responded that they “look like honeybees.” I agree…but that wasn’t really the point!
