My goal with the monthly contest is to provide a fun way to encourage others to learn more about nature and wildlife. It is really addictive when you start looking more closely at the natural world around you - try it! The more people start noticing and learning about our natural flora and fauna, the better chance we all have of protecting it. You don’t have to be a “tree hugger” or an activist to love nature. You can be just a regular person who is informed enough to care about things like recycling, energy consumption, or giving up pesticides. A little information can go a long way toward helping us preserve entire ecosystems for ourselves and future generations. Learn a little, have some fun, and lead by example!

Official Rules for the Birder’s Lounge ID Challenge & Contest
- On or about the end of first day of each month, Birder’s Lounge will post one or more original images, in a format that contains the contest entry form in the post.
- Contestants are challenged to identify the subject of each of the images by the subject’s common name and/or taxonomic name.
- The winner is the first contestant to correctly identify the bird, plant, or animal subject of each image.
- The only hint given will be the city and state where the photo was taken. The month and year that the photo was captured is the same as the contest month and year.
- Multiple entries are welcome.
- Entries are accepted until midnight of the last day of the contest (allowing 3 weeks for entries).
- If no-one correctly identifies all of the subjects, the first contestant to get the most number correct will win.
- The winner will be posted, along with the correct answers, within 2 days.
- Birder’s Lounge will promptly and happily send the prize to the winner!
